2025 saw Whitby Fishing Trips granted one of the first Bluefin Tuna permits on the North East coast, only three were issued to charter boats on this coast and after a lot of hard work putting the application together, we were thrilled to get the news we had been successful.
Bluefin tuna on this coast are known for been huge and once hooked are brutal and the fight to bring one alongside can last more than an hour. It’s very important to try and bring these fish along side as possible, in order to give the fish the best chance and minimise any stress. We have invested in big game equipment and harnesses to give our anglers the best chance of taking one of these beasts.
This fishery is very well managed and strict training and yearly applications are needed before applying. The season usually starts from around august time.
Our first season was a real eye opener and after getting 7 bluefin tuna alongside was a great achievement, the biggest was 115 inches and absolute monster of a fish and this weighed 1,100lbs going by the tuna scale.
What an experience for us and our anglers, and if successful in our 2026 application we cant wait to go again.
Our Bluefin Tuna trips are whole boat charters only and a maximum of 4 anglers, at a cost of 1,100 for 10hr trip targeting bluefin only.
All the equipment is provided on these trips.
You cannot use your own home made rigs on these trips.

Please not these trips are subject to been successful in our application. This is the same for every charter boat in the country, the fishery is very strictly managed, anybody abusing the terms of the licence could have it removed and barred from future applications, it’s that well managed.
